We have been working closely with our client to develop a new self build home in the Sneyd Park Conservation Area, Bristol. The project creates a large, 6-bed home for a wider family group. Internal spaces include; open plan living spaces, home office, separate entertaining/guest spaces and more private family bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms has a balcony overlooking the garden. The client approached us after a previous scheme was withdrawn from planning, as a result of site constraints and complex planning environment.
The design utilises connections to the outdoors through a sunken, south-facing, and extensive views over the large garden to the rear. To meet the needs of the client whilst being mindful of scale within the conservation area, the building is designed to be 2-storey when viewed from Church Road. However, it also makes use of the sloping site to provide an additional story on the lower ground floor level. The proposed materials are mostly traditional and common within the conservation area, but are used in a more contemporary manner.
Thermal comfort and overheating analysis was undertaken as part of the planning submission. Sustainable design features, including air source heat pump and a 6kWp PV system will provide a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions against Part L 2013.
Planning approval was granted in March 2022.
