One50studio were paired to work with Bristol Somali Resource Centre (BSRC), through a ‘matchmaking event’ by the Bristol Housing Festival’s Community Led Homes framework.

The project involves the development of a new community space and housing in Barton Hill where BSRC support the local community, providing free and impartial information, advice and guidance on a range of issues, including welfare, housing, schools and employment.

 

BSRC has campaigned for many years for more community space in Barton Hill and the proposed development of the site will include a multi-use community space for local groups on the ground floor, probably with a café and outdoor space, with social housing flats above, providing local homes for local people on the Housing Register.

 

The scheme is being co-created with input from the Client team, Community Homes West, Black South West Network and the local community and has involved two large workshop events to date and the establishment of a community steering group.

 

Options have began testing the quantity of homes that could be provided on the site that could assist in financing the community space needs, as well as providing homes for local people.
